Where to Score a Warm Winter Coat

Staying warm is all about style. Layers of soft knitwear under a fabulous jacket no matter what your preference- down, fur, even wool- we've got a coat that's guaranteed to do the job until warmer temperatures and sweet shorts make a comeback in the spring.

Check out Blooimngdale's Guide to Winter for some surefire hot ideas to keep the cold breezes at bay. Hate to wear hats? Why not try earmuffs?  Even though there's no real truth to the myth that "90% of your body heat escapes through your head", its still a significant amount of heat that IS lost through the head, so staying covered and protecting against possible frostbite is undoubtedly important!

Check out more styles here from lyst.com, where they have everything for you from peacoats to down jackets! Here are some of my favorites:

I love how warm this jacket looks!

Can't get enough of this shade of green- one of this season's hottest trends!

I don't know that I'd actually wear this- but I really want to! :)

Head to Toe

Fashion isn't just about the clothes you wear. Awesome accessories, hot shoes, even makeup and hair are all important elements of your personal style. When it comes to makeup, I've always been of the "less is more" theory (Honestly, who wants to look like a cheap hooker in broad daylight?) However, there are some who can pull off heavier makeup in a classy manner, simply by using brighter colors, darker liners and classic, full red lips.

When it comes to hair, certain styles have achieved "timeless" status (think sexy waves, classic side part, etc), it seems this year hairstyles are making quite a splash with more fun, edgy styles. Bright colors (such as hot pinks, royal purples, even cherry red) can definitely make your overall style pop. What I'm saying here is that sometimes it feels good to step away from the conventional and go with something daring and that you wouldn't normally try!

If bright colors are just a few steps outside of y our comfort zone, fear not! There are plenty of ways to be edgy and daring without dying your hair lime green (or some other color that would make your grandmother blush). If you have long hair, try to add some funk to a plain jane style by adding braids! Or, you could always experiment with new products (think mousse, hairspray- anything to add volume and body).

Sometimes, the best looks are ones you would never consider for yourself. If your hair is super short, why not try some extensions? Or, add some hair wax to create funky texture and give yourself a whole new style. If  your hair is straight, grab a curling iron and create something so awesome, it would reduce Shirley Temple to shame!

Just like any other aspect of fashion (clothes, makeup, nail polish, etc), the perfect look isn't always about whats trendy or "in style", its about taking a look that you might not normally consider and finding ways to make it your own.

Check out the videos below on Youtube for more inspiration.

Have Fun! :)

Studs, Prints and Tassels- Oh My!

Last season, little ankle booties got plenty of play (and a chance to bask in some much needed spotlight!). However, as temperatures drop, it seems the knee high boot is ready to reclaim its number 1 status (finally)! And naturally, it's brought plenty of accessories along for the ride. While the plain, tall knee boot has pretty much achieved "timeless" status, why not step it up a bit (haha- get it? Step? Yes, I went there!) and let your feet have some fun with accessories?

          Studs-

These shiny spikes add major drama to even the most casual outfits. If your trying to make an outfit pop without going overboard, give this look a try.
          Prints-

For the wild at heart, animal prints are perfect! Leopard, python, zebra- literally anything goes. Feel free to indulge your untamed side (and brace yourself for plenty of envious stares along the way).

          Tassels-

Not just for graduation caps anymore, this trend is all about NOT following the typical fashions and claiming your indivuduality. Add a touch of femininity with these to complete whatever look your heart desires...

Is burgundy the new black?

This autumn, it seems burgundy is EVERYWHERE, but just like with anything else, sometimes too much is not a good thing. While neutrals like black, brown, gray, etc are always in style and can be worn with anything, burgundy is a great shade to play up those neutrals and really add a vibrant pop of color to your (already fabulous) fall wardrobe!

See the guide below for basic burgundy pieces that can become a staple of your autumn style:

All of these pieces (above) are surefire hotlist items that should be on everyone's wish list! (At least, I know they're all on mine!) If your not feeling the burgundy so much, try a dark purple. It's close enough that it will still give those neutrals some pop and make your outfits stand out (and let's be honest- isn't that kind of the point?)

If your REALLY opposed to burgundy (even though it does complement every skin tone!) check out this site to find some other colors that make the "gotta have it" list.

As always- happy shopping! :D
